Nicolas A. S. Chronos, MD, FACC, FESC, FAHA, FRCP is president of the Saint Joseph’s Research
Institute and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical
Center. He currently oversees preclinical trials at ACRI and clinical
research at the Saint Joseph’s Research Institute. Dr. Chronos is a
renowned researcher in the area of stem cell therapy and interventional
cardiology devices, international lecturer and author of numerous
peer-reviewed papers, abstracts, and book chapters. His publications
include articles in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology,
Circulation, Heart and European Journal of Cardiology. He is an
editorial consultant to the New England Journal of Medicine, British
Heart Journal, Clinical Science, the Journal of the American College of
Cardiology, Circulation, Heart, Atherosclerosis, Catheterization and
Cardiovascular Interventions, Stent, Thrombosis Research, Cardiovascular
Radiation Medicine, Journal of Stem Cells and other distinguished peer
reviewed journals.
Dr. Chronos received a Bachelors degree in Medicine and Surgery from the
Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London in 1987. Following, he
trained in cardiology and subsequently interventional cardiology under
the direction of Professors Ulrich Sigwart and Anthony Rickards at the
Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute. In 1992, he was
awarded a British Heart Foundation International Fellowship and moved to
the United States to continue his research in thrombosis and
interventional cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine under
the direction of Spencer B. King, III, M.D. He was named Director of
Research at the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center at Emory
University Hospital in 1997. In June of 1999, he co-founded ACRI, a
non-profit organization, to promote and improve the comprehensive care
of the cardiovascular patient. ACRI was created to integrate preclinical
and clinical research programs to enhance understanding of the
pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases
Dr. Chronos is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London),
Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and Fellow of the European
Society of Cardiology, and Fellow of the American Heart Association. He
sits on numerous Scientific and Medical Advisory Boards, serves as Study
Section Chair, SBIR, Cardiovascular Science, for the National Institutes
of Health and on the Data Safety Monitoring Boards for numerous clinical
trials. In addition, Dr. Chronos has co-founded several successful
biotechnology companies. He joined the Essex Woodlands Team as an
Adjunct Partner focusing on cardiovascular medicine with an expertise in
interventional cardiology and medical devices as well as cardiovascular
regenerative medicine. He serves on the Board of Directors for
Medlogics. Dr.
Chronos sits on a number of other boards and has
been involved in the analysis and investment decisions related to recent
cardiovascular investments. |
