Dr. Gertner is currently President and CEO of
Oraya Therapeutics,
a company he founded from within the Essex Woodlands partnership in
2006. He is a board certified general surgeon, an entrepreneur, an
engineer and a patent agent. In addition to Oraya and Essex, Dr. Gertner
is an adjunct professor of surgery at Stanford University, a consultant,
to the Biodesign Program at Stanford and a consulting trauma surgeon at
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose.
Dr. Gertner completed a BS and an MS in mechanical engineering from
Columbia and MIT and attended medical school at Cornell where he
graduated at the top of his class and was elected to AOA. He then
attended UCSF through a chief residency in General Surgery, finishing in
2004 and subsequently becoming board certified. Dr. Gertner is the
primary author of over 75 issued or pending patents and has published
many peer reviewed articles as well as delivered numerous national and
international presentations in the fields of surgical innovation and
medical devices. In addition to Oraya, Dr. Gertner is the co-founder of
Medlogics Device Corporation, Allux Medical and Minimus Surgical
Systems. He also serves on the board of directors of
Nellix Endovascular.
